The Senate approved the law on cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of copyright
Senators approved the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation of the CIS Member states on the Protection and Protection of Rights to Copyright and Related Rights in Information and Telecommunications networks”.
The agreement was signed at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on November 12, 2021 in order to resolve issues of the use of copyright and related rights in information and telecommunications networks, as well as in Internet resources on the territory of the CIS member states; develop and implement measures to prevent and suppress the illegal use of copyright and related rights; deepen cooperation of authorized (competent) bodies with copyright holders; exchange of information in the field of countering the illegal use of copyright and related rights objects between authorized (competent) bodies; ensuring on an ongoing basis the exchange of educational, methodological and special literature, as well as the results of scientific research on this topic, as well as deepening cooperation in the field of copyright and related rights protection.
Coordination of interaction between the parties to the Agreement is entrusted to the Interstate Council on Legal Protection and Protection of Intellectual Property within the CIS. Financial support for the implementation of the Agreement is envisaged to be carried out by the parties at the expense and within the limits of national budgets.
The expected results of the adoption of the Law are the creation of legal mechanisms to counteract the violation of copyright and related rights in information and telecommunications networks, as well as the expansion of trade, economic and cultural ties between the member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
